Pipewort Flower Whole (Eriocaulon buergerianum) is the dried flower head of a traditional Chinese medicinal herb known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as Gù Jīng Cǎo (谷精草). This delicate, lightweight flower has long been valued for its ability to clear wind-heat from the eyes, sharpen vision, release the exterior, and gently soothe inflammation. Its nature is light, sweet, neutral to slightly cool, allowing it to ascend and disperse, making it especially useful for conditions affecting the eyes, head, and surface layers of the body.

In TCM, Pipewort Flower enters the Liver and Lung channels, where it helps dispel wind-heat, brighten the eyes, relieve redness, reduce dryness, and improve visual clarity. It is traditionally used for eye strain, early-stage inflammation, blurred vision, photophobia, tearing, itching, and mild conjunctivitis, especially when symptoms are related to wind-heat, overuse of the eyes, or dryness from prolonged focus. Its gentle dispersing quality also supports formulas for early-stage wind-heat colds with headache, dizziness, or mild sore throat.

Folk herbal practice uses Gù Jīng Cǎo in simple tea infusions, eye-soothing washes (when properly filtered), and heat-clearing blends intended to comfort tired or irritated eyes. Its light, uplifting character also makes it a traditional choice for clearing heat from the upper body and refreshing the senses.

Modern research shows that Eriocaulon buergerianum contains flavonoids, phenolic acids, and anti-inflammatory compounds that help reduce oxidative stress, soothe eye irritation, and calm superficial inflammation, supporting its classical role as an eye-brightening and heat-clearing herb.

Each batch of Pipewort Flower Whole (Eriocaulon buergerianum) is carefully harvested and shade-dried to preserve its lightweight structure, pale color, and gentle cooling fragrance. When steeped or decocted, it produces a mild, refreshing infusion traditionally used to brighten the eyes, soothe visual fatigue, dispel wind-heat, and ease mild inflammatory discomfort in the head and senses.

Notes: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Gu Jing Zi is used to brighten the eyes, dispel wind-heat, and clear superficial heat affecting the liver and eyes. It is commonly used for red eyes, blurry vision, photophobia, and discomfort triggered by wind or heat exposure. Light, dispersing, and gentle, it is ideal for external eye irritations and mild visual strain.
