Tree of Heaven Fruit Whole (Ailanthus altissima) is the dried fruit of a tall deciduous tree long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for its astringent, cooling, and anti-parasitic properties. Known in TCM as Chun Pi Guo or Ailanthus Fruit, it has been valued for centuries for its ability to clear heat, dry dampness, and stop bleeding, particularly in conditions related to the intestines and skin.

In TCM, the fruit and bark of the Tree of Heaven are described as bitter, astringent, and slightly cold, entering the Large Intestine and Stomach channels. They are traditionally used to treat chronic dysentery, diarrhea, and intestinal inflammation, and to expel parasites and reduce damp-heat in the lower body. The fruit in particular has a milder, harmonizing energy compared to the bark and is sometimes used in cooling, detoxifying, and anti-inflammatory formulas.

In folk herbal medicine, Ailanthus Fruit has also been employed to ease abdominal pain, stop bleeding, and relieve skin irritation when used externally as a wash or compress. Its strong astringent and antimicrobial qualities made it a traditional remedy for intestinal infections and topical wounds.

Modern phytochemical studies show that Ailanthus altissima fruit contains quassinoids, alkaloids, and polyphenolic compounds, which exhibit antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and astringent effects. These findings support its historical role as a gut-regulating, cooling, and detoxifying herb.

Each batch of Tree of Heaven Fruit Whole (Ailanthus altissima) is carefully harvested and naturally dried to preserve its reddish-brown color, subtle fragrance, and bioactive constituents. When decocted, it yields a bitter, cooling infusion traditionally used to clear heat, regulate the intestines, and dispel dampness.

Also Known As: Feng Yan Cao, Fructus Ailanthi, Tree of Heaven Fruit, Ailanthus Fruit, Chun Shu Guo (椿树果)

Nutrients: Alkaloids (ailanthine, quassinoids), flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and essential oils

Notes: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Feng Yan Cao (Fructus Ailanthi) is used to clear heat, dry dampness, and stop diarrhea, particularly in cases of chronic dysentery, leukorrhea, and intestinal infections. Bitter and slightly cold in nature, it acts on the Large Intestine and Stomach meridians. Also used in folk medicine to reduce inflammation and expel parasites. The bark of the same tree (椿皮 / Chun Pi) is more commonly used and stronger in action, while the fruit is considered milder and less drying. Caution: Use with care in individuals with weak digestion or spleen deficiency; avoid high doses due to natural quassinoid bitterness.
