Wild Honeysuckle Flower Whole (Lonicera hypoglauca) is the dried blossom of a mountain-growing honeysuckle species, known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as a regional form of Jīn Yín Huā (金银花). Like other high-quality honeysuckle flowers, it is prized for its heat-clearing, toxin-resolving, and wind-heat–dispersing properties, especially in conditions involving fever, sore throat, seasonal heat, skin eruptions, and inflammatory discomfort. Its nature is sweet, slightly cold, and light, allowing it to rise upward and outward to release pathogenic heat while gently supporting detoxification.
In TCM, honeysuckle flower enters the Lung, Heart, and Stomach channels, helping to cool heat, relieve throat irritation, clear fire-toxin, and soothe red, swollen, or painful conditions. It is traditionally used for hot sore throat, cough with heat, early-stage wind-heat colds, fever, mouth ulcers, erythema, boils, and heat-related skin eruptions. Wild-grown Lonicera hypoglauca is especially valued for its higher fragrance, potent cooling energy, and strong ability to release exterior heat due to the harsher environments in which it grows.
In folk practice, Wild Honeysuckle Flower is brewed as a cooling herbal tea, often taken during hot weather or seasonal transitions to cool the body, refresh the throat, and support immunity. It is also used in washes and compresses to calm itchy or inflamed skin.
Modern research shows that Lonicera hypoglauca contains chlorogenic acids, flavonoids, iridoids, and antiviral compounds with strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and heat-clearing effects, confirming its traditional use for fever, throat comfort, and detoxification.
Each batch of Wild Honeysuckle Flower Whole (Lonicera hypoglauca) is carefully hand-harvested and shade-dried to preserve its delicate tubular shape, pale golden color, and fragrant cooling aroma. When steeped, it produces a light, sweet, gently cooling infusion traditionally used to clear heat, soothe the throat, support immune balance, and resolve toxin-related skin conditions.
Also Known As: Tu Yin Hua, Wild Honeysuckle Flower, Local Honeysuckle, Flos Lonicerae (non-officinal variety)
Nutrients: Chlorogenic acid, luteolin, flavonoids, organic acids, iridoid glycosides, and volatile constituents
Notes: Tu Yin Hua is a regional variety of honeysuckle flower used similarly to Jin Yin Hua but considered gentler and more local to southern and southwestern China. It helps clear heat, resolve toxicity, and disperse wind-heat patterns. Commonly used for sore throat, mild fever, early-stage colds, skin inflammation, and summer-heat discomfort. Its properties are cooling, light, and dispersing with a smoother, less intense action than Jin Yin Hua. Often used in teas and daily wellness blends for clearing residual heat or supporting throat comfort.
