Indian Mallow Seeds Whole (Malva verticillata) are the dried mature seeds of a traditional plant used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) under the name Dōng Kuí Zǐ (冬葵子). These seeds are valued for their ability to promote urination, reduce swelling, moisten the intestines, and support smooth elimination, making them especially useful for conditions involving urinary difficulty, edema, constipation, and heat-related dryness. Their nature is considered sweet, cold, and slippery, giving them both moistening and draining properties.
In TCM, Dong Kui Zi enters the Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Bladder channels, where it helps promote fluid movement, relieve urinary obstruction, and lubricate the bowels. It is traditionally used for painful or difficult urination, water retention, constipation due to dryness, and swelling, particularly when symptoms involve heat accumulation or fluid stagnation.
Indian Mallow Seeds are also associated with moistening and soothing tissues, helping to relieve dryness while gently encouraging elimination. In some traditional applications, they are used to support postpartum recovery and lactation, reflecting their nourishing yet moving qualities.
Modern research shows that Malva verticillata seeds contain mucilage, flavonoids, fatty acids, and antioxidant compounds with documented anti-inflammatory, demulcent, mild laxative, and diuretic effects. These constituents support their traditional role in urinary support, bowel regularity, and tissue soothing.
Each batch of Indian Mallow Seeds Whole (Malva verticillata) is carefully cleaned and dried to preserve their small rounded seeds, natural oils, and moistening properties. When decocted or soaked, they produce a mild, slightly slippery preparation traditionally used to promote urination, relieve swelling, moisten dryness, and support comfortable elimination.

Notes: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dong Kui Zi is used to promote urination, clear heat, moisten the intestines, and facilitate lactation. It is commonly applied for urinary difficulty, edema, constipation due to dryness, and insufficient breast milk. Sweet, cold, and slippery in nature, it helps gently move fluids while moistening dryness. Often used in decoctions, it is valued for its mild yet effective action in supporting urinary and intestinal function. It should not be confused with Kui Shu Zi (葵树子), which comes from Abutilon species and has different traditional applications.
