Lotus Seedpod Whole (Nelumbo nucifera) is the dried seed vessel of the sacred lotus, a plant deeply revered across Chinese, Ayurvedic, and Buddhist traditions for its symbolism of purity and its medicinal versatility. Known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as Lian Fang, the seedpod is valued for its astringent, cooling, and blood-stilling properties, as well as its role in clearing heat, stopping bleeding, and calming the spirit.

In TCM, Lotus Seedpod is considered bitter, astringent, and neutral to slightly cool, entering the Heart, Liver, and Kidney channels. It is used to cool the blood, stop bleeding, and dissipate stasis, particularly in cases of excessive bleeding, heavy menstruation, or blood heat-related conditions. It is also used in cosmetic and rejuvenating formulas for its skin-tightening and anti-inflammatory benefits.

In Ayurveda, the lotus (Padma) and its parts—including the seedpod—are seen as sattvic (pure and balancing), used to cool pitta, harmonize the mind, and promote inner peace. The dried pods are sometimes used in rituals, spiritual offerings, and floral preparations to represent detachment, serenity, and regeneration.

Modern phytochemical studies show that Nelumbo nucifera seedpods contain flavonoids, alkaloids, polyphenols, and tannins, compounds that contribute to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hemostatic properties. These active components support the pod’s traditional use in blood regulation, wound care, and tissue protection.

Each batch of Lotus Seedpod Whole (Nelumbo nucifera) is carefully harvested and sun-dried to preserve its distinctive perforated form, natural fragrance, and rich plant compounds. When decocted, it produces a mildly bitter, cooling infusion traditionally used in formulas for heat-clearing, blood-cooling, and skin-balancing purposes.
