Gromwell Herb Whole (Lithospermum arvense), traditionally known as Bei Zi Cao (北紫草) in Chinese medicine, is a cooling, mildly bitter herb used to clear heat, resolve toxicity, and support skin and urinary health. This herb is related to Zi Cao (Lithospermum erythrorhizon), but is considered milder in action and is valued for its gentle detoxifying and anti-inflammatory effects.

Bei Zi Cao is commonly used to help relieve conditions associated with internal heat, such as mild skin eruptions, rashes, or damp-heat in the lower burner. It is also known for supporting healthy urination and assisting in the elimination of heat and toxins from the body. Its cooling properties make it suitable for formulas targeting liver heat, skin irritation, or inflammation associated with toxic buildup.

When simmered, Gromwell Herb Whole produces a light, earthy infusion with a subtle bitterness. It pairs well with herbs like dandelion, honeysuckle flower, viola, or skullcap in traditional detoxifying or heat-clearing blends.

Each batch of Gromwell Herb Whole (Lithospermum arvense) is carefully harvested and dried to preserve its natural properties and herbal integrity. Whether used in internal formulas or external soaks, Bei Zi Cao offers a time-honored, gentle approach to clearing heat, calming the skin, and promoting detoxification.
