Mandarin Seed Whole (Citrus reticulata) is the dried kernel of the mandarin orange, traditionally used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for its qi-regulating, phlegm-softening, and pain-relieving actions. Known as Ju He, the seed is valued for its ability to move constrained liver qi, disperse nodules, and ease discomfort associated with stagnation in the lower abdomen, chest, or reproductive areas. In classical herbal practice, Mandarin Seed is considered bitter, neutral, and penetrating, entering the Liver channel to break up accumulations, regulate local circulation, and relieve tension. It has long been used for issues such as testicular distension, flank discomfort, mild hernia-type sensations, or breast nodules caused by qi stagnation.
In folk herbal use, the seeds are sometimes ground or warmed and applied externally as compresses to soothe localized swelling or pain, reflecting their traditional role in dispersing stagnation and softening hardness. Modern research identifies limonoids, volatile oils, and flavonoids in Citrus reticulata seeds, compounds known for anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and circulation-supporting effects that align closely with the seed’s traditional applications.
Each batch of Mandarin Seed Whole (Citrus reticulata) is carefully dried to preserve its aromatic oils and dense structure. When decocted, it produces a mildly bitter, warming infusion used in formulas designed to move qi, dissolve phlegm nodules, and ease pain related to localized stagnation. Mandarin Seed is a strong, targeted herb and should be used with care in individuals with qi deficiency, cold conditions, or weak digestion, and is not recommended during pregnancy.
