Paper Mulberry Fruit Whole (Broussonetia papyrifera) is the dried fruit of the paper mulberry tree, a plant long valued in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and East Asian herbalism for its nourishing, cooling, and detoxifying properties. Known in TCM as Chu Shi Zi, this fruit is less commonly encountered than the mulberry (Morus alba) but carries similar restorative and heat-clearing qualities, particularly beneficial for the liver, kidneys, and urinary system.

In traditional practice, Paper Mulberry Fruit is regarded as sweet and neutral, helping to clear heat, promote urination, and relieve thirst. It is used to support liver and kidney health, soothe internal heat, and harmonize the body’s fluids. Some classical texts describe it as beneficial for balancing yin, cooling the blood, and easing discomfort from excess heat or dryness.

In folk herbal traditions, Paper Mulberry has also been used to relieve inflammation, support skin health, and gently detoxify the system, reflecting its mild and harmonizing energy.

Modern phytochemical studies identify flavonoids, alkaloids, lignans, and phenolic acids in Broussonetia papyrifera, compounds linked to antioxidant, hepatoprotective, and anti-inflammatory properties. These findings support its traditional role in cooling the body, protecting the liver, and maintaining fluid balance.

Each batch of Paper Mulberry Fruit Whole (Broussonetia papyrifera) is carefully harvested and sun-dried to preserve its natural color, mild aroma, and therapeutic compounds. When simmered or steeped, the fruits produce a light, subtly sweet infusion used in herbal decoctions and restorative tonics.
